From Numbers to Purpose: Why I Chose Both

I’ve always known I wanted to do more than just build a career — I wanted to build a life of meaning. A life that balances strategy and soul, spreadsheets and service, ambition and faith.
That’s why I chose finance and marketing — two fields that at first glance might seem worlds apart, but to me, are deeply connected. Finance gave me the structure to understand impact. Marketing gave me the voice to express it. Together, they’ve helped me see how data and creativity can work hand in hand to drive real change.
During my internship in Financial Planning & Analysis at Petco, I dove into forecasting models, learned from smart and kind professionals, and saw what it means to support a business from behind the scenes. But it wasn’t just the numbers that excited me — it was knowing those numbers could support teams, guide growth, and serve customers better.
At the same time, my volunteer work — from tutoring at Loretto Academy to organizing fundraisers with Rotary in Cd. Juarez — reminds me of *why* I want to succeed. It’s about more than just rising in my career. It’s about using that success to give back. To build something bigger than myself.
This is just the beginning. I dream of one day becoming a CFO at a fashion company — not just because I love the industry, but because I believe that beauty, business, and responsibility can co-exist. I want to be part of that new generation of leaders — the kind that brings heart to the boardroom.
If you’re reading this and chasing a dream that mixes disciplines, defies expectations, or demands balance — I see you. And I’m cheering you on.
Here’s to growing, giving, and never losing sight of what really matters.
With gratitude,
Diana
